New pool

My hometown got a new aquatic facility this summer. They've been working on it for quite some time and the week I was home visiting family, they opened. I heard they had somewhere around 700 swimmers on day 1. Jen and I opted to not fight the crowds and head to the Sunray pool on day 2 of the visit. Ask anyone and they will tell you that the Sunray pool is the best. We went up there and Brooke and Rabeka got to slide down the pirate ship slide one time. Then the whistle was blown and we had to get out of the pool. Someone had pooed in the pool. So, the poor lifeguards cleaned it up and shocked the pool while we waited. (as a sidenote - that is seriously not a glamorous job - and not one I would ever want to do. Let's just say there are no real tools - it's gloves and goggles diving down to clean it up). Once they got it cleaned up, the lifeguards each got in and took their laps. As one of the last lifeguards was getting out of the pool, they spotted some more-in a completely different area than the first spot. So, more clean up was required. Once again, they lifeguards got in the pool and got to their assigned spots. And, once again - more poo in a different area. This time they shut everything off, pulled out the vacuum thing (yeah, yeah, I don't know what it is called). By now, we'd been waiting for 1 hour on the side and knew that we had to get home in time to prepare for Rabeka's birthday party. Plus, no amount of chlorine was going to make me feel comfortable swimming in all that poo water. So, we decided to leave. The kids (and us) were HORRIBLY disappointed. We made it up to them by having a water balloon fight and playing in the sprinklers at Pawpa's house, but still - not the same. So, next summer we have promised them we'll go check out the new Dumas pool. Rabeka's party was at the park next to the pool, so Dad, Briana and I walked around to check out the new facility (it was closed for the evening).
Very cool, indeed.
This bucket fills with water and dumps periodically. There are also a couple of other areas where water was splashing/dumping. Looks like a blast.
Briana wanted to go in and swim. BAD. Let's just call her 'Spidey'.....

She climbed up there pretty high before I had to pull her off of the fence (and did you notice she's wearing flip flops too?!). That's some serious climbing skills. Oh, and let's not talk about the future ramifications/possibilities of her being able to scale a chain link fence in flip flops at the age of 2.
